Minot Cemetery GPR Survey
Project Type: Road Survey
Client: NDDOT
Location: North Dakota
Project Synopsis
During the planning stages of the widening of Highway 83 through Minot, North Dakota, it was discovered that a segment of the route would potentially impact a cemetery located downtown Minot. Cemetery records indicated that some burials might be facing into the road right-of-way. Due to the potential of disturbance to graves, Beaver Creek Archaeology was hired to perform a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey.
The signal from the GPR would show indications of any ground disturbance such as burials and buried utilities. During the survey a number of buried utility lines were detected by the GPR. There were no signs of any burials. It was recommended the project move forward with monitors in the event of any accidental discoveries. No burial were encountered during the construction.
