Beaver Creek Archaeology, Inc. (BCA), a cultural resource management (CRM) consultancy with offices in Bismarck, ND and Artesia, NM, is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as a Full-Time Temporary/Seasonal Archaeological Construction Monitor(s). BCA conducts project work throughout the central-western United States, with a significant focus on the Great Plains region. The primary role is to oversee and document archaeological resources during the archaeological monitoring efforts of construction projects. Tasked with conducting on-site monitoring, this professional ensures compliance with regulatory standards, identifies archaeological features, and collaborates with their BCA supervisors and construction teams to preserve cultural heritage while facilitating project goals.

Position Overview
This position is based out of our Bismarck, ND office; however, the monitoring project itself is a long-term construction project in Fargo, ND. Compensation will be commensurate with the applicant’s level of education and previous experience, and include overtime pay and per diem allowances. Additionally, BCA will provide a field vehicle and accommodation in a single-occupancy hotel room for the duration of the field assignment. The successful candidate will work hours based on the construction company’s schedule, and overtime is to be anticipated. The project is anticipated to extend until mid-December 2024 with the possibility to return in Spring of 2025. Moreover, successful candidates may have the opportunity to transition into a permanent position with accompanying benefits.

The Archaeological Construction Monitor plays a crucial part in maintaining the delicate balance between construction progress and the protection of our cultural heritage. This role involves implementing on-site monitoring procedures to ensure compliance with archaeological guidelines and project-specific conditions. Key duties and responsibilities
• Site Monitoring: Conduct on-site monitoring during construction activities to identify and document archaeological features, artifacts, and potential impacts.
• Data Collection: Record and document archaeological findings during construction, including artifact discoveries, features, and other significant elements.
• Communication: Effectively communicate with construction crews, project managers, and regulatory agencies to convey archaeological monitoring requirements and findings.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with BCA supervising archaeologists, project managers, and construction teams to implement mitigation measures and safeguard cultural resources.
• Safety Awareness: Diligent adherence to safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment during construction activities.

Minimum qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• Ability to work collaboratively or independently.
• Strong observational and documentation skills.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing field conditions and construction schedules.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Diligent adherence to safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment during construction activities.
Preferred qualifications
• Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• Completion of an archaeological field school or equivalent field training.
• Previous experience as a field archaeologist and/or an archaeological monitor in the Northern Plains.
• Experience with artifact analysis, mapping, and comprehensive site documentation.
• Understanding of the historical context and archaeology of the Northern Plains.
• Technical proficiency in using GPS and mapping tools.
• Critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities.
• Understanding of CRM principles and practices, including compliance with federal and state regulations.

Physical Requirements
• Ability to work for long hours in varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, and exposure to sunlight.
• Capacity for extended periods of walking and standing, often while carrying equipment and tools.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment and field gear, including excavation tools, survey equipment, and artifact collection materials.
• Capability to work collaboratively in a team environment, sharing responsibilities and assisting colleagues as needed.
